DALLAS (AP) — In the Mavericks’ 120-118 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, Anthony Davis scored 34 points, his highest scoring performance with Dallas, which was capped with a driving floater with 3.4 seconds remaining.

Despite missing the most of the second half due to an eye injury, Davis also finished with 15 rebounds and five blocks as Dallas erased a deficit of 11 points in the third quarter.

For the Mavericks, Klay Thompson scored 17 points. They are 1 1/2 games ahead of Sacramento, who are in 10th place in the Western Conference, in ninth place.

For the Hawks, Onyeka Okongwu finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Trae Young finished with 25 points and 12 assists. They are currently in eighth place in the East, one game ahead of Miami and a half-game behind Orlando.

At the end of the first quarter, Davis was fighting for a loose ball under the Mavericks’ basket when teammate Daniel Gafford elbowed him, causing him to bleed near his right eye. Two minutes into the half, he came back wearing a bandage over his eye.

Key Takeaways

Hawks: Young’s lowest scoring average against any opponent is 21.2 in 13 games versus Dallas, who selected him in the 2018 NBA Draft and traded him for Luka Doncic.

Mavericks: Since Kyrie Irving was sidelined on March 3 due to a knee injury, Spencer Dinwiddie has emerged as Dallas’ main playmaker. In his fourth double-digit assist performance without Irving, Dinwiddie finished with 14 points and 10 assists. Playing for the first time since January 14, centre Dereck Lively II (ankle stress fracture) finished 16 minutes with four points and five rebounds.
