NEW YORK (AP) — According to New York City’s medical examiner, actress Michelle Trachtenberg passed away on Wednesday due to complications from her diabetes.

After reviewing the findings of laboratory tests, the agency stated in a statement that it had changed the cause and manner of death for the 39-year-old New York City native.

“Gossip Girl,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “Harriet the Spy” star Trachtenberg was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in her opulent Manhattan apartment building in February.

Her death was labelled as “undetermined” by the medical examiner’s office at the time, and officials maintained there was no suspicion of foul play.

Since there was no indication of criminal activity, the medical examiner’s office complied with Trachtenberg’s family’s request for an autopsy.

An email for comment on Wednesday was not immediately answered by her representative.

Trachtenberg was 8 when she started playing Nona Mecklenberg on Nickelodeon’s “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” from 1994 to 1996. She later starred in the title role in the film adaptations of “Harriet the Spy” and “Inspector Gadget,” opposite Matthew Broderick. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Taylor Momsen, and Blake Lively were among the celebrities who expressed their sorrow upon learning of her passing on February 26.

From 2000 until 2003, Trachtenberg played Dawn Summers, the younger sister of the titular character, who was portrayed by Gellar.

Trachtenberg went on to play Georgina Sparks, the cunning enemy of the gang, in recurring appearances on “Six Feet Under,” “Weeds,” and “Gossip Girl.” She was among the cast members of the original series to make two cameos in the 2021 revival of “Gossip Girl.”

Later credits for Trachtenberg included “17 Again” (2009), starring Zac Efron and Leslie Mann, and the 2004 teen sex comedy “EuroTrip.”
